And The Year Is:

1979 - Part 2

1979, the year with the beat. This was the year the Disco Craze hit the wall … at Comiskey Park in Chicago. The White Sox weren’t having a great year and a local radio station decided to run a special promotion in conjunction with the team. “Disco Demolition Night” became one of the most dangerous nights in Major League Baseball history as the sell out crowd threw disco records through the air like frisbees, flooding the field and forcing players to wear helmets before fleeing to the safety of their locker rooms.

The hedonism of the Disco Era had finally worn thin and its top selling group, The BeeGees, had their final number one hit in a remarkable string of seven consecutive chart toppers. But there was more great music to come, and as Disco faded, new beats took its place.
